Different Types of Platform Beds for Bedroom

Ideal for people, who are fond of spacious and simple rooms, platform beds are those that comprise of raised, flat, hard, horizontal surface, meant to support just a mattress. The bed is actually raised on legs or support structure and does not contain any springs. With the adequate support from slats or solid paneling, the platform beds provide firm cushioning, eliminating the need for a box spring or a mattress foundation. While the simple platform beds are mainly comprised of the bed, the complex ones have additions such as headboards, footboards, canopies, extra flourishes and storage units. One of the main advantages of platform bed is that it offers the user a comfortable good night's sleep, without ending up with back pains or numb muscles in the morning. The modern platform bed trend came into force in the late 1900s. Modeled after the European style, such beds have fine lines and color contrast that give a dramatic effect to the room, as a whole. Low features with straight bold lines are the main characteristic of platform beds. A latest addition in platform beds is the inclusion of microfiber and leather padding on a headboard. The main purpose for the leather padding is to provide backrest to the user, while sitting in bed.

Traditional and Transitional
Well, if you are fond of traditional look, the best bet would be to opt for the traditional type of platform bed. Reflecting the art and craft era, these beds beautifully infuse the traditional and conventional aspect of designing, in a contemporary platform bed. In this type, the headboard is designed in such a way that it looks traditional, yet contemporary.

Japanese or Asian Influence
Though platform beds are mostly designed in the European style, some also draw inspiration from the Asian style. For instance, there are beds similar to the traditional Japanese tatami mats.

Storage Platform Beds
Nowadays, there are platform beds available with drawers underneath the frame especially to provide a storage space. The storage space can be located beneath the side rails or may include drawers incorporated into the footboard of the bed. The other variety found is one with retractable storage headboard. In such a type, the headboard can be opened and offers a deep storage within.
